Using weapons for self defense is only good if you learn and know how to use them. Here at Addo Enterprises, we offer NON-LETHAL self defense weapons because our objectives are just that - to help you effectively defend yourself and escape when attacked. Nothing more.

Remember that there are two types of self defense weapons, your body and items such as stun guns, pepper spray, Taser guns ,batons, etc.

Here are some essential things to know BEFORE owning a weapon.

Learn to use the weapon
Do not rush to buy a weapon if you dont intend to take some time to learn how to use it. Just having the weapon doesn't mean it'll be any help whatsoever. To the contrary, this could be a problem. There are times when these items are left in the wrong hands and end up hurting the wrong person. This is especially true if the item is a gun. There are a number of people who die each year because of Accidental Discharges from guns, and a number of children die each year because their parents left the weapons lying around without locking them up. Although a stun gun or taser gun does not kill, they can be put in the wrong hands and hurt someone. So get trained in it's use, storage and maintenance. Learning to use your weapon and obeying some very basic rules will help you avoid 99% of unnecessary accidents.

Learn the local laws about weapons.
There are lots of laws about weapons in general. Find out what the local laws are pertaining to your weapon. A simple place to start is the internet. Google your way around, maybe then get a few phone numbers or go to your local police station to get the facts. There are laws about stun guns, pepper spray, knives, etc----mostly having to do with when such weapons may be used, if they can be used and under what circumstances. Click here for states where stun guns and pepper spray are restricted.

Now lets look at the individual weapons:

STUN GUN:
Stun guns are contact weapons. Therefore you need to touch your attacker to be effective. It is therefore important to regularly test it to ensure that it works and that the batteries are good. To test it, press the switch. A charge will fire accross the front from the test probe. Do this for only one second durations. Holding it for longer may damage the probes and deplete the batteries..

After test firing, discharge the unit by touching the probes against a piece of metal. You will see a final spark and the unit will then be safe. This measure is important to avoid receiving residue shock incase you inadvertently touch the probes within five minutes of testing firing.

While walking or running through a potentially dangerous area, have your stun gun out, close to you and ready to use. A stun gun is a contact device so your assailant has to be very close to you in order for you to touch him with it.
The most effective locations to use a stun gun on are the upper hip, the upper shoulder or below the rib cage. These areas have the most nerve centers therefore the effect is greatest there. As a rule of thumb, aiming anywhere on the torso is the most effective. Do not go for the arm or leg. It is not as efective, especially if you are dealing with a huge individual. Usually one to five seconds will leave the assailant dazed enough to give you time to escape.

TASER GUN:
Taser guns work the same basic way as ordinary stun guns, except the two charge electrodes aren't permanently joined to the housing. Instead, they are positioned at the ends of long conductive wires, attached to the gun's electrical circuit. Pulling the trigger breaks open a compressed gas cartridge inside the gun. The expanding gas builds pressure behind the electrodes, launching them through the air, the attached wires trailing behind. Click here to learn more about tasers. Taser has introduced a new sleek taser that is geared towards women although it can be used by everyone. These are the C2 taser guns. They work and function just like all the other tasers. Just a cooler design with different exciting colors.

Forget Tupperware; it's Taser party time
'It's a girl power kind of thing,' says enterprising saleswoman

PEPPER SPRAY:
It is recommended that products of this nature be replaced every three years. The reason for this is that the cans are designed with two soft rubber gaskets. Given time, some of the pressure can bleed off past these gaskets rendering the spray less effective. The nature of the product suggests that effectiveness is of utmost importance, thus the replacement time interval.

Storage: Do not store or leave your spray in temperature that are greater than 125 degrees F or below -15 degrees F. Excessive heat or cold may cause the can to leak or burst.

There are different type of pepper spray:

1. Broken-Stream: (and heavy-stream) This type is a variation on the widely distributed stream type. Very effective at hitting multiple attackers, hitting them in the dark, in tight areas, e.g., through your partially opened car window, and helps with aim. The solid stream (similar to the water guns sold today) will blast an attacker with super-hot pepper! Through a partially opened car window you have minimum misting action that can contaminate you. If you miss, or the attacker was in a hard- to-reach area, you can "fan" this spray during discharge. Fanning is a technique for hitting your mark. You spray the stream then move your dispersions path from side to to side until yon hit your mark! The stream also provides the heaviest blast of pepper (cans will empty faster). The pepper works instantly. Causes the eyes to seal with tears, nose to run, excessive coughing, shortness of breath, etc.

2.Fogger: This type of spray pattern is great for multiple attackers, crowd control, bears and home use. One disadvantage is there can be some blow-back of pepper contaminating you, especially if used outdoors. However, the blast you would receive and the direct blast the attacker receives are quite different. Where you would tear and cough on a good sized blow-back, the attacker would be rendered incapacitated for about 30 minutes. You pull the trigger or release button, and "fan" your path back and forth hitting everything in its path. Picture a mini fire extinguisher! The pepper works instantly. Causes the eyes to seal with tears, nose to run, excessive coughing, shortness of breath, etc.

3.Foam: This type is excellent for blow-back protection and immediate saturation. EXAMPLE: If it is windy, you can spray this with minimum to no pepper blow-back contaminating you. A common misconception is that the attacker, once sprayed with the foam can just wiped it away and continue to attack. This Pepper Foam is like thick, sticky shaving cream but with one addition... 5.3 million Scoville Heat Units of blistering hot pepper. He will try to wipe it off but it will be to late. The pepper works instantly. Causes the eyes to seal with tears, nose to run, excessive coughing, shortness of breath, etc.

STUN BATON:
Stun batons work the same way as stun guns. The have a longer reach. You therefore dont have to be close to your attacker. This is however best to be used in the home or office. It is bulky to carry around in a purse or bag and therefore not easy to quickly pull out and use.

GUNs:
We at Addo Enterprises do not sell guns. We therefore do not have information regarding their use. Guns are lethal defensive weapons.
If this is something that you feel will be ideal, please visit the many sites on this item.
