Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the difference between a real-time and a passive
vehicle tracking system?
GPS tracking receivers of all kinds capture signals from satellites
orbiting the planet and determine the location of the receiver
based on those readings. The user follows the objects
movements on personal computer. Real-time, also known as active,
GPS tracking systems tell where a vehicle is, in real time.
Passive vehicle tracking devices such as the GPS Tracking
Key Pro® vehicle tracking system record travel history
and the user can later download the data and analyze it at
a time when it is convenient to them.
Are there any additional charges associated with the Tracking
Key Pro®?
Other than battery purchase, no. Real-time GPS Tracking Systems
usually use a wireless network to transmit data for display
on the Internet, so there is a contract involved with a wireless
company, and monthly fees. The Tracking Key Pro® is a
passive vehicle tracking system. It records data, so there
is no contract. It is far more cost-effective.
Can the Tracking Key Pro® be used for theft protection
or theft recovery?
No. Look for a real-time device if you need stolen vehicle
recovery (Click
here for our real time trackers). The GPS Tracking Key
Pro® vehicle tracking device shows the user where the
vehicle was, including its direction, speed and stops, but
not where it is at the current moment.
How long will the batteries last?
That depends on how much the vehicle is driven and the type
of batteries used. With good quality lithium batteries (2
AA), the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device
will operate for up to 80 hours. Averaging two to three hours
a day driving, thats about 30 days.
Are batteries my only option for power with the Tracking Key
Pro®?
No. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device
can be hardwired to the vehicle and it can run off the vehicles
12V cigarette lighter. Those cables are available as optional
accessories.
Is the Tracking Key Pro® waterproof?
No. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system
is water-resistant. Protections have been designed into the
vehicle tracking system to try to prevent water damage, but
the unit is not waterproof. Users should use every precaution
to keep their Tracking Key Pro® dry. Water-damaged units
are not covered under warranty
Can I change the recording frequency of the Tracking Key Pro®
to extend battery life?
The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device is programmed
to record every second. The sampling rate can be changed,
but it will not affect battery life. When the Tracking Key
Pro® is on, its running off the battery, regardless
of how many readings its taking. However, changing the
sampling rate (to 5 seconds, or 10 seconds) means less data
will be committed to memory, and the 100-hour memory card
will fill less quickly.
How will I read my Tracking Key Pro® data?
Install the custom Past-Track software, included with the
GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device. Users have
three reporting options: a daily (words only) log; routing
over digital, animated street map, and routing over satellite
images by Google Earth.
If my Tracking Key Pro® runs out of batteries, or otherwise
loses power, will all the travel data be lost?
No. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system
will always have the latest 100 recorded hours of movement
committed to memory. When the card is full, the newest information
will record over the oldest. Losing power will stop the GPS
Tracking Key Pro® from recording until power is restored,
but power loss will not wipe clean the memory.
Who are the Tracking Key Pro®s most frequent
users?
The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device is a
sleek, lightweight, easily-portable passive device. It seems
to be the preferred vehicle tracking model for police officers,
private investigators and managers of business fleets
Will the Tracking Key Pro® work in other countries?
Yes. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system
will work anywhere in the world.
