If you have a copy of the book, Footwear Impression Evidence by William J. Bodziak, look on page 39. In the photograph, he shows various types of scales used for impression photography. He defines the best one as having a finely-divided scale that can be placed evenly in the same plane in two-dimensional or three-dimensional impressions. This scale, made to FBI specifications, photographs well under various lighting conditions, and it is easy to prepare natural-size photographic prints. Most importantly, this scale provides a means of checking and correcting perspective distortion.

The "Bureau" scale set contains an L-shaped scale which is 30 cm on the long arm and 15 cm on the short arm, and a second straight scale which is 15 cm long. One side of each scale in the set is white with black printing and the other side is black with white printing. The L-shaped scale is rigid and is not hinged like some of our other scales.
